THE efforts by the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan and some social organisations should be given a big thumbs-up for their contribution towards a better tomorrow.

However, regardless of their tireless efforts, one should not live in a fool’s paradise that in a country like Pakistan, where lawlessness, sectarian violence, lack of tolerance are at their height, there will be an overnight change for any new government.

It is the change of corrupt mindset among the masses which is needed for a change before we can champion any other progress economically or socially under the prevailing law of the jungle.

After all the efforts made so far, what we see is more cases of corruption, targeted killings, long marches, strikes, school closures, losses to businesses, more deficits, ever-decreasing essential resources in the country, while politicians do not bother about the situation and let the commoners suffer. Long live Pakistan!
