KARACHI, Feb 15: Light to moderate showers with thunder lashed many parts of Balochistan and Sindh, including the metropolis, on Friday when a weather system that had entered Balochistan from the north-western side moved eastwards, said Met officials while forecasting a cold night for the Karachiites.

In the city, the maximum rainfall of 14 millimetres — almost three quarters of an inch — was recorded at the PAF Base Faisal, said a Met official while responding to Dawn queries.

He added that the model observatory on University Road recorded 9.8mm rainfall, the old city area received 9.3mm, PAF base Masroor received 9mm rainfall, and the Jinnah terminal area received 7.4mm of rainfall.

Wind speed peaked during the day and was recorded at around 20 knots (over 37 kilometres per hour), almost double of the usual wind speed of 10 knots in the city, said the weatherman.

He said the minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded at 16 and 24 degrees centigrade, respectively.

Humidity in the evening was 65 per cent, he added.

He said that weather on Saturday was expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of misty morning and minimum temperature was expected to remain between 15 and 17 degrees centigrade.

The official said that other parts of Sindh that received showers were Jacobabad where 9mm rainfall was recorded, Larkana with 8mm rainfall, Sukkur with 7mm, Nawabshah with 5mm followed by Rohri and Moenjodaro with 3mm each. Hyderabad received traces of rain, he said.
