KARACHI: Citing “non-compliance” by the ruling coalition partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday decided to part ways with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led governments in centre and Sindh, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to a press conference after attending a meeting of the party’s Rabita (coordination) Committee, which was held simultaneously in Karachi and London, senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar announced the decision.

The deputy convener of the Rabita Committee also accused the ruling party of not implementing the local government bill in the province despite of passing it from the assembly.

He said the party had joined the PPP government leaving behind past bitterness and supported it in difficult times. But, he said the PPP left the people of Sindh on the mercy of bureaucracy, depriving them of local government system.

The MQM had boycotted the in-camera session of the Sindh Assembly on Thursday and also stayed away from Friday’s proceedings in protest over a move to withdraw cases against Lyari gangsters.

However, ignoring the protest lodged on the issue by the MQM, the Sindh government on Friday had withdrawn bounty for the arrest of eight suspected gangsters said to be affiliated with the banned People’s Amn Committee.

The names of Umair Katchi, Fahim, Sheraz alias Comrade, Abdul Jabbar alias Jhengo, Faisal Pathan, Rashid Bangali, Mullah Nisar and Rashid son of Ghulam Hussain Lond have been withdrawn from the list of people carrying reward money for their arrest, said a notification issued by the home department.

Sources said the eight were booked in dozens of criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, attack on police, and some of them had been declared proclaimed offenders by courts.

Speaking during the press conference, Sattar announced that the party’s MPAs will sit on opposition benches from now on in the provincial and National Assembly. He said the decision is final and will not be taken back at any cost.

Accusing the PPP, he said the suspects belonging to Lyari gang war were released overnight.

Regardless of informing President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, steps were not been taken to address reservations shown by the MQM, said Farooq Sattar.

He also accused the PPP of nurturing the gang war terrorists. “After creating the Amn Committee, the People’s Party had given them a license of killing the civilians,” he said.

The MQM leader further said non-serious attitude was shown by the PPP on all issues despite following the policy of reconciliation.

COMMENTS

  1. it’s the season of making fools again, which these guys do so effectively every few years/months/days etc as per their requirement.
how can we be so gullible??? and so easily lied to , wake up people or be ready to face your destiny

  2. A real face of MQM is known by everyone. It’s their policy to be with Government, enjoy their portfolios, jobs, funds and then leave the Government before completion of its tenure. It’s not a surprise for the people of Pakistan. It happened as usual they used to threat the Government for acquiring their demands. Why Governor is still seated? Why Governor has not resigned yet? Don’t they remember that Governor belongs to MQM as well. It’s a dual policy and dirty game playing by PPP-MQM who want to make the people fool but nobody can dare to ask them for Governor’s resignation. They just want to make interim setup together. Shame on it!

  3. Didn’t MQM contest the last polls, as in the opposition to PPP. Now after enjoying five years of power, what is wrong, to distance themselves, from the alleged failure of the government, especially if this U-turn can win them some votes. This is called the abc of MQM politics. Trust me they will join whoever seems to make government next time. These guys hold no discrimination, even if Qadri, or Magsi or Taliban seem to get enough votes, they will make an alliance with him. These guys are true ‘momineen’, they don’t differentiate.

  4. The PPP policy of reconciliation and non-humiliation of political opponents was nothing but a ‘show case’ that cracked and broke all too often. The farce of “Democracy is the best revenge,” has not benefited the citizens with reconstruction but has opened doorways of bestial desires to bring in murderers and corrupters.
Pray the citizenry of this unfortunate country has the better sense NOT TO VOTE for the PPP again through cajolery or savage force and ring in the change to save Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Quetta and Karachi.
To quote, “Change is inevitable, do not resist it.” Educated people matter, provided they are perspicacious and practically motivated. Salams to all Pakistanis and vote sensibly.

  5. Inka koi deen iman nahi hai

  6. out of government! for how long?

  7. In Karachi all u-turn boards should have MQM written on them, this way the party will get free publicity and people will understand their philosophy without any difficulty.

  8. After enjoying power for 5 years and when there was 1 month to go; these people decided to part ways.
who are you trying to fool.

  9. MQM tried to lower the body counts of Mohajirs in urban Sindh by supporting the PPP.
some of you can not understand pressure from the USA, UK and others which have forced MQM to stay connected with PPP.
MQM didn’t have any power or resources in the government, so stop blaming MQM!

  10. My humble suggestion is that all political parties based only on ethnic, religious and regional politics and philosophy should be banned from any active participation in politics. No party should be allowed to form govt if they do not secure votes in at least 3 provinces of Pakistan. MQM is the epitome of a lota party. After making one deal or another they have managed to enjoys perks of power in all recent govt including under dictators. Whats wrong with so called “educated middle class Urdu speaking” population that they follow this corrupt leader with no questions asked and never take any balanced stance. Punjabis, Sindhis, Pushtuns and Baloch all split their political affiliations but this cant be said for Muhajir majority.

  11. Its a new drama same characters, same Pir same mureeds

  12. MQM is about to learn the difference between other politicians and Zardari. A widespread operation against ‘miscreants’ will be launched very soon in khi.

  13. Despite of the difference in their holding seats in the Center and the Provincial, this is a divorce where wife & Husband shared the the house 50 / 50. She (PPP) got inside the house and He (MQM) got the outside. Both Parties are seeing their last days of dominance, PPP was simply incompetent and perhaps MQM just don’t know politics, as they now don’t even have a token friend.

OR may be Jab Kashti Doobnay Lagti Hai toa Bhoj Utaara Kartain Hain. Not sure who is dumping who?

  14. i bet my life on this hoax is going to be over within days..MQM has made a joke of themselves who cares they part ways both of them are one and the same, partners in crime!!

  15. Another wrong decision of MQM,They should have parted with PPP long time ago, what PPP has done to the country is now showing its ugly face. Think of the country MQM not politics

  16. MQM contributed to the buliding up of democracy in Pakistan by keeping a stable Govt which the army and the judicial power brokers would have loved to topple. Further MQM is a strong and increasingly lone voice of reasoning amidst religious madness of other political outfits fueling jihadi culture. Hope MQM does well in the upcoming elections.

  17. If it is a gang war, some gangs being supported byAmn commitee, who are the other gangs?, supported by whome?MQM is in habit of raising hue and cry after taking full part in these so called gang wars, they re themslelves criminal gang.Who does not know their history?

    • MQM and its related student organization are the original gangsters with Jamat-e-Islam in Karachi and Sindh politics. Poor and “illiterate” people are blamed for Pakistan’s current predicament but its so called “educated middle classes in urban setting” who have actively looted Pakistan again and again. These are the parties that keep making back door deals with military and other undemocratic forces. MQM has the most secured political base but they have never taken one principled stance in political forces. After enjoying all the political perks for last five years now they have realized that MQM can not work with PPP i.e. 3-4 months before elections. Simply disgusting political somersault.

  18. “Accusing the PPP, he said the suspects belonging to Lyari gang war were released overnight.”
This The PPP is too close with organized crime in Karachi, or are they afraid of the gangsters at the same time?
One thing is certain that the release of accused cop killers hurts the morale of the police force in the city. Police can be killed, and no one goes to prison? Why should the police risk their lives from now on? The politicians are backing the criminals instead of the police.

  19. Do you guys write a new story every time this happens or just pull it right out of the archives and just change the dates?

  20. MQM only do politics of blackmailing.

  21. Let the forces for change – PTI, Awami Tehreek, APML and MQM – unite to wipe out feudalism, the root cause of all evil in Pakistan. India’s progress is due to the fact that they ended it on day 1 of Independence. Pakistan did not.

  22. MQM part ways with PPP’s Sindh government
Drama AFTER 59 MONTH , FOR MAKING OF CARE TAKER GOVERNMENT ,
MQM apnay aap kop bouhat samajdar samjti hai, isi liyah to in ko 59 month baad pata chal hi giya kay ppp galat hai

  23. Aha – Well done MQM, but then you have done this for the umpteenth time, and I am sure this will be followed by a few phone calls to London and then a dash to London by Rehman Malik who will announce that the issue was simply a misunderstanding between two brothers and everything is back to normal. By now we now the whole scenario and are not impressed by this protest/withdraw.

    • very true.its all a drama

    • This time the scrip will be little different! MQM parted ways to have a say in the interim Sindh Government! Very simple!!! They had enjoyed all the privileges and at an opportune time when nothing much is left to suck out of this poor nation, they have parted ways!!! Come on Bhai Log!!! Who are you trying to fool around?

    • MQM also deserted Musharraf after enjoying power for five years and now Zardari, they have no morality.

    • this is a drama by MQM, after election they will join the winning party and will enjoy government again…. :)
