LAHORE, Feb 17: The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) will make electoral alliances and seat adjustments with different parties and candidates in the upcoming polls.

“We’ll use all opportunities that come our way to take other likeminded political stakeholders along whether in the form of alliances or seat-to-seat adjustments in the upcoming polls even though there are visible chances that the party can obtain a comfortable majority on its own,” PML-N Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah Khan told Dawn on Sunday.

He said party chief Nawaz Sharif was of the opinion that taking onboard the maximum number of likeminded parties would help solve certain problems facing the country. He said that making seat adjustments would be easier than striking electoral alliances.

He claimed that a visible progress had been made in Sindh while talks were going on in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In Punjab, he said, the Jamaat-i-Islami was the only likely partner of the PML-N.

He said an anti-PPP alliance in interior Sindh and anti-MQM grouping in Karachi could give good results provided the efforts succeeded to put up a one-on-one contest in each constituency.

About the lack of election momentum in the country, he said an election environment would be visible after an interim setup would be in place in the country.

He said people were not sure whether the elections would be held in time or not. —Amjad Mahmood
