LAHORE: Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Asma Jahangir on Saturday said she had no desire to become the caretaker prime minister, DawnNews reported.
Speaking to media representatives in Lahore, Jahangir said certain people come into power in the name of the people and then refuse to party with it.
She expressed apprehensions that certain forces were trying to create chaos in the country but added that elections would happen on time.
Jahangir moreover said the country’s current situation was a result of the actions taken by regimes of the past, adding that democracy should continue to flourish in Pakistan.
She further said it would be better if retired judges did not join the caretaker set-up.
Earlier in January, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had said his party would oppose the nomination of Jahangir for caretaker prime minister.
“The PML-N has endorsed the name of rights activist Asma Jehangir for caretaker prime minister. We oppose this as she has association with the PPP,” Khan had said at a news conference.

good news.
Thank you Ms. Jehangir, Majority of sensible Pakistanis also don’t have the desire to have you even a Caretaker Prime Minister.
If you do not want retired judges, then whom do you want?should we have retied army men or retired civil service people. Do you know of any retired angels? Please say something positive.
It is amazing that Asma’s name was proposed by both PML(N) and PPP mainstream parties — but prematurely opposed by PTI’s Imran Khan in public — while she had not even expressed her opinon over the gracious offer. As expected of a non partisan Human Rights leader Ms Asma Jahangir has refused to accept the offer
Now this is the difference between an experienced, mature, mainstream leadership and an immature hastey fringe showmanship.
My question is — to whom Imran Khan wanted to IMPRESS upon that he is even opposed to an international human rights leader conductiong an imprtial election — to the Taliban or to the army — or both?
Thank you very much Asma, truly appreciate.
She is wise!
She should be permanently sidelined – She has no principle and has been very clear about where her loyalties lie. She may be better than those in the government but she is no saint – A voice for human rights, she screams only when her political opponents are guilty of violating them.
pakistani public also dont want that to be PM .. caretaker or what ever
With due respect, she is clearly not a neutral person and does not fit the profile and requirements to be the caretaker prime minister.
A wise decision by a wise lady! Instead of facing attacks – both physical and through character assassination – by the likes of Difa-e-Pakistan Council and PTI, she will better serve the hapless nation by continuing calling spade a spade.
Alhamdulillah .. the sanity prevailed.
The candidate for the caretaker PM post should be free from amongst new faces & free from controversy
Thank you. Great.
