Tallest building
THIS refers to the news item ‘$45bn real estate deal signed with Abu Dhabi Group’ (Feb 16). It surprises and amazes one that Karachi is to have the tallest building in the world, and that too by a man under trial. This is Pakistan.
Is it not more important to provide education, food, clean drinking water, healthcare, shelter, electricity, etc? The billions of dollars they will spend could build houses, schools and hospitals.
It is more important to eliminate poverty and illiteracy than going for artificial achievements to fool ourselves by saying that this is a progressive country when poverty, along with terrorism, lawlessness, killings and robberies is threatening our very existence.
Corruption is another plague that blinds one’s eyes and allows such things to happen. It is time we rescued this country from destruction.

Emphasis on education
RICH Muslims are spending millions of dollars on building mosques, luxurious hotels, malls and other monuments, which is a good way to attract tourists and generate revenue, besides earning so-called prestige.
Moreover, unlimited amount of money is also spent on various notorious hobbies of Arab sheikhs. It would be highly fruitful if a number of universities for free higher education for the poor students from Muslim countries are opened with donations from rich Muslims.
These universities would offer scholarships for eligible, competitive and capable students and engage its students in learning activities on an international scale. Students from Muslim countries look forward to European and other Western countries for getting higher education where they face many problems, not only as being immigrants, but also as being Muslims.
If universities of international standard are opened with cooperation of the OIC and other inter-governmental organisations, a number of young Muslim boys and girls would get free higher education and, in turn, serve their countries, bringing up positive changes.

There should be a freedom of choice for investors to do whatever they want to do with their money. Why is it an obligation (reiterate an obligation) on the part of people with money to build schools or do charitable work.? They are only required to do it out of their faith and goodness of their hearts. Also how do we know that parties involved in this venture do not do their share of charitable work? Questioning their motives without any substantial information is immature and pure envy. I trust someone has already commented and I echo, that projects of this nature will initially create hundreds of jobs for workers with various skills along with continuous availability of work far into future. Let some build universities & others build the places where graduates can conduct the business. Don’t envy & judge people with money, appreciate them.
It is a joke and will remain a joke, I don’t think these people have that kind of Money or have the capacity to raise it.
What Building ? Just heard the ABu Dhabi Group refuting such deal…I guess its a lie, a big one.
I am surprised by how some of our valued people think and how they criticize the progress of our nation? In our country ” A WHOLE FAMILY DEPENDS ON THE EARNINGS OF ONE PERSON “. Majority of the families survive on only one or maybe two bread earners, so if a high rise building is constructed one can imagine how many people will be hired and how many families will be benefited by the on going construction which may last for at-least a couple of years or more and after that there will be more business opportunities, more job creations and so on so on.
We have a very good example of countries like India, Malaysia, Singapore and many other Asian and European countries where they kept their vision on PROGRESS in-spite of all their internal problems and external threats. If some one is investing his money in some project, why should we criticize him ? Quite a few people will have jobs and they will be able to send their kids to school and colleges.
Let us for once think POSITIVE and avoid negative remarks.
GOD BLESS PAKISTAN
Firstly your comparison to India, Malaysia, Singapore and other Asian and European countries WITH pakistan? really? we are up there with these Countries? in which department? Secondly EDUCATION and HEALTH ONLY is what mainly is required in Pakistan
Writer no 1 writes, “Is it not more important to provide education, FOOD, clean drinking water, healthcare, SHELTER, electricity, etc? The billions of dollars they will spend could build houses, schools and hospitals.”
Is the tallest building not supposed to provide shelter? Karachi being so far spread, and the population growth, consuming available agricultural land, is it not wise to go vertically up, instead of wasting more land, which can produce food? Plus if the population is pulled away, too much from the city center, then the distance for commuters would increase. Take your pick -;)
I don’t care, if the person invovled is under trial or not, he is innocent until proven guilty.
This deal is a No Go by ADG.
There is a great and very real fear in the hearts of the rulers that the educate might become aware and rise up for their rights. That is unacceptable.
This is a cooked news item. Nobody is going to finance 45 billion US dollars to construct the tallest building in Karachi. Why should UAE invest the money through Riaz Malik. There are thousand and one buldiers in the world who can do better job than Riaz Malik.
our schools and colleges have more holidays due to sit ins paya jaam hartals and the rest our younger generation is ruined . No point in making more schools ,colleges and university , we need to keep them existing schools open.
The abu dhabi group came out with clarification that no such project is on cards and it is the “mash hoori manjan ” of Riaz malik. Once peoples party is out of power, you will never see this man in Pakistan. He will be living a happy life in Dubai or canada like Zardari use to live before NRO made him president.
I fully endorse the views expressed by Rida Noor. It is a pity that education in Pakistan gets the least priority in development planning. A massive effort both in the political and private domain is required in this most important sector.
