ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the trial court to hear Shahzeb Khan murder case on a daily basis and keep it apprised of the progress.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry issued the order after it heard the case on a suo motu notice taken over the murder in Karachi of 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan and arrest of the prime suspect, Shahrukh Jatoi.

During the course of proceedings, the chief justice observed that the crime rate in Karachi was increasing and needed to be tackled with the iron hand.

The FIA officials informed the court that there was no exit stamp on Jatoi’s passport and he had flown to Dubai by committing forgery.

The court said the role of FIA in providing the video footage was un-satisfactory as even after the passage of two months the CCTV footage had not been not provided to the court.

It observed that there should be action against the police and FIA officials involved in Jatoi’s escape from the country.

DIG Shahid Hayat informed the court that the airport’s CCTV footage did not contain Jatoi’s video showing him going towards the plane.

Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed asked how did Jatoi get the boarding pass if the CCTV footage did not contain his video.

The FIA’s director (legal) said it all happened because of the prevailing VIP culture in the country as many people passed through a checking point with one VIP.

The chief justice said no-one should be treated separately as everyone is equal before the law and no-one is VIP.

He said if people could pass with the VIPs, then any terrorist could also hide in the shadow and take advantage of the situation.—APP
