ISLAMABAD, Feb 24: The federal ombudsman has appointed a ‘grievance commissioner’ to investigate public complaints against the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The appointment has been made in view of a large number of complaints received by acting ombudsman Salman Farooqi against the civic agency.

When contacted, CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz said he was consulted by the ombudsman secretariat on the matter. “I was consulted and the grievance cell will address the issues related to the CDA,” Mr Shahbaz added.

He said the CDA was not the only department which would be under the scrutiny of the ombudsman rather grievance commissioners would also be appointed for other institutions.

Meanwhile, in its press release the ombudsman secretariat said they had received several public complaints against the civic agency, containing allegations of corrupt practices, delays, illegalities, injustices to the citizens or the failure of the officials to timely perform the functions assigned to them.

The grievance commissioner will focus on ascertaining the root causes of the complaints and recommend steps for their redress and eradication.
