Two sisters killed

MURREE, Feb 24: A recklessly-driven passenger van ran over four people near Trat bus stop, killing two children, Rescue 1122 here said on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Nayab, 3, and her two-year-old sister Rubab.

Maryum Bibi along with her two daughters and another woman Sanam Abrar was walking along the road when the van knocked them down, killing Nayab on the spot. Ms Maryum, her daughter Rubab and Sanam Abrar were injured. The Rescue 1122 staff shifted the injured to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), Islamabad, where reportedly Rubab also died.

According to the passengers, the accident occurred due to reckless driving. It may be noted that the traffic police are strict about driving speed on the expressway but to avoid challan most of the public transport vehicles use the old Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir highway, where the accident occurred.The father of the deceased girls had died four months back. —Correspondent
