LAHORE, March 2: Mohammad Abid and Rida Khalid won the men’s and ladies’ titles respectively in the first Lahore Open Junior tennis championship at the Bagh-i-Jinnah courts here on Saturday.

Abid carved out a 2-1 win over Hira Ashiq. Having lost the first set, Abid steadied his game and completed the win with score being 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 with the final continuing for 40 minutes.

Also, Rida recorded a facile 2-0 win against Khunnsha Babar with the score being 6-0, 6-3.Energetic Rida showed fine form as she did not allow her rival to pose any threat throughout the 30 minutes proceeding of the final.

Rida’s forehand shots and fine serves helped her quickly dispose off challenge from Khunnsha.

In the other events, Ahmad Babar remained victorious against Mohammad Ahmad to win the under-18 final with score being 6-3, 6-1.

Hafiz Arbab beat Humble to win the under-14 final with the score of 6-3, 6-3 while Hamza bin Rehan defeated Natain Abbas 6-1, 6-3 notching up the under-10 title.
