Improving the rail system

WHATEVER development was made by Syed Mustafa Kamal, the former Nazim of Karachi, has been widely acknowledged. If the local government system would not have been dissolved, Karachi would have had a mass public transport system. In this regard, Lahore has taken the lead.
Politicians have criticised the chief minister of Punjab claiming that the Metro Bus System will not last even for a year.
Will all politicians think for the betterment of the railway system, laying double railway lines from Karachi to Islamabad?

Wishful thinking – Pakistan Railways has seen downfall in recent years. All goods trains and as many as 115 express and local trains have been halted while symptoms suggests that operations of other trains would also cease. Rails, sleepers and other supplies have being stolen and ravaged by the railway employees and officials. It is now left with a skeleton of what was inherited from the British after the division of India in 1947. Pakistan Railways had a fleet of 280 locomotives at its disposal in 2008, which reduced to a total of 147 locomotives. Only 112 locomotives were in working condition. If by hook or by crook Zardari’s government gets a second term the remaining network will be ransacked at light’s speed.
