FAISALABAD, March 9: Commissioner Dr Ejaz Munir has set a two-week deadline (March 24) for completion of the Abdullahpur Underpass.

He issued the direction to the engineers during inspection of the project here on Saturday.

The commissioner asked the engineers to complete the project by March 24 so that it could be opened for traffic without further delay.

Similarly, he asked the departments concerned to complete development of the linked green belts and landscaping by March 31. The commissioner also inquired about the shifting work of electricity, Sui gas and sewerage installations.

In connection with the canal breach that claimed four lives, he directed the irrigation department officials to ensure durable construction.

Briefing the commissioner, SE (Highways) Abdul Nasir and NLC officer Rasheed said 80 per cent of construction work had been completed and efforts were under way to complete the remaining work within the given time.

They said the mega project had been undertaken at a cost of Rs1.080 billion and citizens would enjoy the facility of the signal-free traffic at the chowk after its completion.

DCO Muhammad Amin, Wasa Managing Director Zahid Aziz, CE (Irrigation) Inayatullah Cheema and other officials were also present on the occasion.
