Who made those laws?

WHY this concern about Americans getting another foothold on the land of the pure where Satan is banned and angels tread everywhere.

It was not the Americans who stopped us from constructing large dams, spending less than two per cent of our GDP on formal education, while turning a blind eye to the mushrooming of Saudi-funded madressahs which preach bigotry.

At last count there are 700 in Islamabad alone.

Did the US Congress pass blasphemy and Hudood laws or stop us from taxing feudal lords and big businessmen?

Sadly, today we are our own worst enemy and the world at large is preparing for the inevitable.

A nation turns everything into a menace when they head for dooms and then blames others for their destruction. Muslims in general and Pakistanis in particular are going through the same phenomena. American aid is a menace, Saudi help in establishing madaras is a curse, whereas our recognized government universities are at the verge of closing due to lack of funds. Trillions of fund given to universities by Musharraf have been swindled by these illiterates gang, claiming to be politicians with bogus degrees. They have proved to be not only illiterates but criminals of high degree. Awam wants democracy and they are getting it then why to cry. Just relax!

At least people in Pakistan are starting to say that now. Perhaps one day we will actually reach the stage where we can actually have a government in place that can use its simple majority to abolish these so-called "blasphemy laws" which totally violate all norms of decency and the very spirit of tolerance and peaceful conduct which is the core message of the Quran.

Well said ... if only another 100 million of your countrymen felt the same way. Time is running out, unfortunately, and most Pakistanis can't (or perhaps will not) accept this premise. Ironically, the Holy Quran is replete with the demise of people who caused disorder on earth. Too bad the Holy Quran was revealed in Arabic and not in the language your people really understand: money.

US congress did not pass Hudood Ordinance and Blasphemy law but they did support (and to a great extent) the dictator who did. However, it is true that we have to do lot of a soul-searching for ourselves as well
