SANGHAR, March 10: Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo on Sunday unveiled the plaque of an under-construction cultural complex in Sanghar.

Speaking to a gathering of the local literati and Pakistan People’s Party held on the occasion, the minister said that 30 per cent construction work of the cultural complex had already been complete.

She said that the project was being executed at an estimated cost of Rs83.5 million and would be completed by June 2014.

The complex would have a library, a museum, an art gallery and an auditorium, she said, adding that all materials of historical importance would be preserved and put on display in the museum. Local artists would also be given an opportunity to put their works on display in the arts gallery.

The minister said that Mansoora, an archaeological site located within Sanghar district, had always been neglected by the past governments but after the devolution of cultural ministry, her department signed an MoU with Unesco for proper preservation of the site.

Talks were under way with many countries for preservation of archaeological sites in Sindh, she said.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated a library in Shahdadpur which has been named after late PPP stalwart Abdul Salam Thaheem. The library has been constructed by the culture department in collaboration with Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority.
