"Why is govt ignoring Railways?" Because they want Pakistan to return to the stone age and inculcate "back to the basics" principles of horse and camel rides.

Because the people at the helm of affairs, civil, military, political are all certifiable dolts and ignoramuses. Everywhere in the world countries are investing in their railways, with even heavily sanctioned Iran laying new track. But we are so desperate and eager to declare our railways as "unserviceable" and "abandoned this and abandoned that." The man who heads the railways does not know the difference between a headlight and a searchlight, he is also one of the biggest transporters of this helpless country. He is on record to say "so what if Pakistan does not have a railway, is there a railway in Afghanistan?" I am a bit more surprised at the military which is a silent spectator in this whole sordid saga watching a strategic asset going to waste. The railways has seen far more damage inflicted on it by this current PPP government of thugs and louts then in its entire previous history. What a shame!

Pakistan Railways, Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Steel, i.e. any word with Pakistan as a prefix should be privatized. Pakistan is dysfunctional. Sensible of the state to realize this and hand over the Gwadar Port to the Chinese. Hand over as much as possible to other people to run. East Pakistan is better run now as Bangladesh, why because Pakistani's are not involved. Pakistan is a failed, dysfunctional, state unable to stand on its feet, even after 65 years, what more proof could anyone ask for.

Because they themselve are in Forwarding and Transportation businesses. They are destroying Railways in order to make big money for themselves. After all the traders need the supplies to move around, so failure of Pakistan Railways is DIRECTLY proportional to the Profits earned by these Transportation companies. Unfortunately these companies are mostly owned either by politicians themselves or their relatives.

Our Neighboring country India has the largest railway network in the world, transporting the largest number of people per year. Another neighbor China has bullet trains competing with planes in travel times. Now why cannot we run our Railways, Airlines profitably?. Because everything is pre-planed to run it to the ground. Railway ministers, and the M.D. of PIA have fake jobs, their work is essentially to keep asking for loans and to return the favor, the state run companies give employment, free trips etc to the lawmakers and those who make financial decisions. Its amazing that in spite of good examples set forth by our neighboring countries, we are such a loathsome people, we cannot, and do not wish to improve, we wish to remain impoverished, always looking at short term gains, we have not given anything to our people. We had private shipping companies in 1947, that to was run to the ground. Pakistan as a country is too big, too difficult, too diverse, too many diverse interests, and the mindset, the thinking, the ability of those who govern, cannot deliver.
