ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said that there was no need to conduct any ‘grand operation’ in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

Malik said that only 15-20 miscreants were responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the city and would be caught soon by authorities.

The interior minister alleged that the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) was involved in spreading violence in Karachi, adding that LeJ members flee to Rahim Yar Khan or Dera Ghazi Khan after committing crimes in the city.

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the interior minister said that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) played a major role in fighting against terrorism.

Malik also praised the role of the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in fighting terrorism.

Moreover, he said that he had successfully completed the duty assigned to him, adding that he would be happy to help, should the new government require his assistance.

Karachi Rangers and :Police are doing very good job these days. Once Rehman Malik and Qaim Ali Shah are out, the Police is working intelliegently and dilligently without interference from corrupt and incompetent people.

Mr. Malik, please. I pray that the new government can work without your "expertise"!! You have "served" the country enough. Now you deserve a complete and undisturbed retirement. I am sure you have made plenty to keep you going during your days of rest. There is no shortage of people with your "caliber" who can carry your work forward. I am positive the new government will find some one who can "serve" the country as well as you did!!!

He was never really interested in doing the REAL job of an Interior Minister. All he was required to do was to amass money for himself and his boss and we all know that he did really really very well in that. I wish there is some mechanism not to let such people runaway and is made to account for his misdeeds.

I have delibrated with some collegues over a considererable amount of time, if there was one constructive conclusion that could be applied to your esteemed interior minister, Mr. Malik. Our answer was a simple 'no'. It is remarkable that over a period of five years in office, the federal interior minister of Pakistan could not be credited with any positive conclusion. I hope the next government does not include Mr. Malik again.
