PESHAWAR, March 16: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Jamaat-i-Islami on Saturday agreed to seat adjustments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the next elections and formed a subcommittee to finalise a formula on it within a week.

The agreement came during a meeting of the leaders of the two parties at the house of PML-N provincial president Pir Sabir Shah in Hayatabad.

The subcommittee will consist of Khawaja Mohammad Hoti, Farid Toofan and Rehmat Salam Khattak from PML-N and Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and Dr Mohammad Iqbal Khalil from JI.

In the meeting, PML-N was represented by Sabir Shah, Amir Muqam, Khawaja Hoti, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Rehmat Salam Khattak, Farid Toofan, Arsala Khan Hoti and Abdul Sattar Khan Khalil, and JI by Professor Mohammad Ibrahim, Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Bahrullah Khan and Dr Iqbal Khalil.

The participants discussed the possible PML-N-JI seat adjustments in detail and expressed the hope that the two parties would jointly bag the maximum number of seats in the province during the elections.

They said under the current circumstances, it was necessary for the likeminded political parties to get together and accommodate each other in the larger national interest.

The participants warned that the political parties’ failure to take decisions carefully could prove dangerous for democratic process in the country.

Also in the day, PML-N held a meeting with its provincial president, Pir Sabir Shah, in the chair.

The participants expressed pleasure over the completion of the five years of the provincial assembly but complained that corruption, inflation, unemployment and lawlessness during the government had made the people’s lives miserable.

Mr Sabir Shah said the government had earned a bad name for the country on the international front by wrong policies.

He said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was the only leader, who could steer the country out of the current socioeconomic and security crises.

He added that he was hopeful that the people would vote his party to power.
