KARACHI: National champion Hamza Akbar opens his campaign in the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS) 14th Asian under-21 snooker championship against host country’s Vishal Vaya at Indore, India, on Monday. The event runs from April 1 to 7.

According to draws, the 19-year-old snooker sensation has been drawn in group ‘D’ which besides him and the Indian includes Leong Man Hhoi (Hong Kong) and Siyavosh Mazayani (Iran).

His next fixtures will be against Iran’s Siyavosh Mazayani on Wednesday while he takes on Hong Kong’s Leong Man Hhoi on Thursday.

His contemporary Mohammad Majid Ali who is placed in group ‘E’ faces India’s Rahul Sachdev in opening match on Monday followed by matches against Badr Obaid Khalifa Almehairi (UAE) and Wan Nansen Sin Man (Hong Kong) on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

The two cueists accompanied by manager-cum-coach and former world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Yousuf leaves for Mumbai on way to Indore on Thursday by PK 274 at 10.30am.

As many as 30 cueists from 10 nations will vie for honours in the weeklong spectacle. They have been drawn in eight groups. Top two from each group will qualify for knockout pre quarter-finals.

The competing nations are China, Iran, India, Thailand, UAE, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Iraq and Pakistan.
