KARACHI, March 30: The Sindh caretaker cabinet comprising 16 ministers was sworn in on Saturday at a simple ceremony at the Governor House.

Governor Ishratul Ibad administered the oath of office to the ministers who have yet to be awarded portfolios. Two advisers will be inducted into the cabinet soon.

The ministers, belonging to various parts of the province and representing different sections of society, are:

Noorul Huda Shah, a well-known writer and reformist who has been exposing evil traditions of feudal culture through her short stories and popular TV drama serials.

Anees Haroon, a prominent human rights activist respected for her relentless struggle on issues faced by women.

Shakeeb Qureshi, a former police official who resigned from police force and moved to London, only to return after being absolved of involvement in a high-profile murder. Last year he was appointed chairman of the Sindh Revenue Board without approval by the selection board.

Sardar Yasin Malik, a businessman who deals in medicines and is known for his social services.

Khalid Tawab, a businessman and honorary consul general of Mozambique.

Khalid Latif, a businessman from Sukkur region and vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Iqbal Daud Pakwala, former chairman of the All Pakistan Flour Mills Association and former naib nazim of Sukkur.

Sardar Mohammad Khan Ghoto, former nazim of Ghotki taluka who is close to the Mahar family.

Nawab Qalb Hussain Lahori, a scion of the famous Lahori family of Larkana.

Mohammad Sharif Ansari, an industrialist and businessman.

Shabbar Zaidi, a chartered accountant.

Mehmood Mandviwalla, a businessman and cousin of a former federal minister.

Dr Junaid Ali Shah, an orthopaedic surgeon.

Dr N.K. Lohani, a social worker from Kunri.

Raees Ghulam Qasim Jiskani, a well-known landlord of Khairpur.

Mian Zahid Hussain Chinoti and Haroon Farooqui will be inducted as advisers to the caretaker chief minister soon. Both represent business and industrial community.

Chief Minister retired Justice Zahid Kurban Alvi took nine days to select his cabinet.

Although it was earlier declared that the chief minister had convened the first meeting of his cabinet on Sunday, the meeting was rescheduled for Monday after the oath-taking ceremony.
