ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court dropped on Wednesday proceedings against former commerce minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim facing charges of involvement in the multi-billion-rupee National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam when it was informed that the Federal Investigation Agency had submitted a charge-sheet against him in the court concerned.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the trial court in Karachi to proceed against the former minister in accordance with law without being influenced by the proceedings in the case in the apex court.

“FIA has submitted charge-sheet against Amin Fahim and former commerce secretary Salman Ghani for appointing Mohammad Ayaz Khan Niazi as NICL chairman who purchased 10 acres of land in Korangi (Karachi) at an exorbitant price,” FIA’s additional director general (legal) Mohammad Azam Khan informed the bench.
