PESHAWAR: Fourteen militants have been killed in an offensive against militants in Khyber tribal region’s Tirah Valley, security officials said on Friday.

The clashes have also left four soldiers dead and five others wounded, the officials told Dawn.com.

The Frontier Corps media spokesperson, Major Fazl also confirmed that four soldiers were killed in the gun battle while five others were injured.

Three militant bases were also destroyed in the offensive, the officials said.

The clashes in the valley had also left two members of a peace committee dead as militants set ablaze a number of houses of the tribesmen opposing their presence in the valley.

Meanwhile, in reaction to the offensive, militants resorted to a rocket attack on Peshawar City.

Four rockets from an undisclosed location hit the residential areas of Hayatabad Phase-6. At least one person was killed and five others, including four children, were injured in the attack.

“In all, four rockets were fired from the tribal areas. Three of the rockets exploded while one landed in the open and but failed to explode. The rocket was defused by the bomb disposal squad,” Tatara police station official ASI, Mahsal Khan told.

He said that one rocket landed near the police station, the other near a park while one hit the residential area, leaving some people injured.

The Hayatabad Medical Complex officials confirmed that six people including four children were brought to the hospital where one has died.
