LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has suggested to former skipper Younis Khan to quit one-day cricket and take up coaching of the national side.

“I feel that it is high time for Younis to call it a day as far as the One-day International cricket is concerned since his career seems to be over in this form of the game now that he has been dropped from the Champions Trophy probables,” Rashid said on Thursday. The former wicket-keeper batsman said Younis should concentrate on adopting a new role by taking up coaching of the national side.

He acknowledged Younis’ contributions as an ODI player and termed him a wonderful player who inspired the national team to success on many occasions. “I see an ideal coach in Younis and there is no harm in appointing him as Pakistan’s assistant coach who can take over when foreign coach Dav Whatmore leaves,” said Rashid.

He said Younis is a certified level-two coach as he attended the course few years ago under the supervision of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at the National Cricket Academy.

“The PCB is looking for a full time batting coach for the national side ahead of the Champions Trophy this summer in England and I think Younis is an ideal choice for the job,” he said.—APP
