PESHAWAR: Four militants and a policeman were killed in a gunbattle on the outskirts of Peshawar as miscreants attacked the police force when they were stopped for security checking on Friday evening.

Police officials told Dawn.Com that the police stopped a car near Sufaid Sang area in Regi Lalam, but the militants, riding the car, hurled a hand grenade at them and then opened indiscriminate gunfire.

The police officials, in response, counter attacked the militants ensuing a gunbattle resulted in the death of a policeman while three others were injured. Four attackers have also been gunned down as the police cordoned off the area engaging the militants, said sources.

The deceased policeman has been identified as Raffaqat while the injured include Shah Khalid, Qazafi and Ijaz, who had been shifted to a nearby hospital.
