PCB considering Grant Flower for batting coach: report

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that former Zimbabwe player, Grant Flower, is being considered for the position of the national team's batting coach among other candidates, ESPNCricinfo reported.

Flower is currently serving as Zimbabwe's batting coach but his contract expires in August. PCB announced they were looking for a batting coach in November 2012 to address Pakistan's batting slump after they flopped in the World Twenty20.

Pakistan hired Inzamam ul Haq as a batting consultant before the team's tour of India in December 2012.

Pakistan has been on the lookout for a coach to overcome batting weaknesses that have proved troublesome at an international level.

Previously, several former Pakistan players such as Zaheer Abbas and Saleem Malik offered their services as batting coach.

Pakistan hired former Australian batsman Dav Whatmore as head coach in March last year followed by Englishman Julian Fountain as fielding coach and Mohammad Akram as bowling coach.

The terrible decision by PCB if they Grant Flower appointed as coach.This is very worst decision to do so.Pakistan have lots of talented & legendary batsmen like Javed Miandad,Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam-ul-Haq,Salim Malik & many of others why PCB wouldn't their services as Batting coach. They all are far better than Grant Flower if those people will get a chance to serve Pakistan as batting coach it would be the different ball game for Pakistan cricket & PCB as well. Pakistan Cricket Board i m requesting u please ponder over it deeply. Regards Kamran Bhatti

why do they need so many coaches? players would go crazy listening to all kinds of coaches from all directions and what was Dave whatmore's coaching designation?

What will the coach accomplish if the Cricket board continues to select players like Misbah, Cheema and other below average players. It is said that Pakistan is full of budding and talented players then why does Selection Committee continue to select players who are far below international standards.

All good about having Grant Flower, but is there not one Pakistani batting legend capable of coaching the boys - who hardly speak a word of english ?

What will be the role of Whatmore,the chief coach. Secondly, we do not have the batting talent in the country. I mean the natural talent. I don't think a coach will be able to make any difference. Waste of money.

G flower is never regarded as top player in international cricket. Is class is millon times below than Javed , Zaheer , Inzamam , S anwar , Basit Ali. I dont know what's the logic to hirea this loser to teach a bunch of loser. PCB should spend more time and money in their induction program for national wide talent hunt. As we all know V. Richard. Tendulkar, Javed . S.Anwar, Zaheer , Lara were raw talent and coach has no contribution in their achivements.

There may be other reasons behind this... Zaka Ashraf's main goal has been to revive international cricket in Pakistan. Grant Flower's brother, Andy Flower is Engalnd's coach, and he has gained a lot of respect from the English players and the board. May be, PCB might be looking for brotherly favors somewhere down the line.. this is Pakistan after all..
