LAHORE: An election tribunal accepted on Monday Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers for NA-119 constituency and his brother Shahbaz Sharif’s papers for the NA-161 seat, DawnNews reported.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif's candidacy papers from NA-120 had been challenged before an election tribunal of the Lahore High Court.

Two appeals were filed pleading that the former prime minister had concealed his assets at the time of filing of nomination papers,  further alleging that Mr Sharif was involved in money laundering worth billions of US dollars.

Two citizens Babar Amin and Saeed Iqtidar had also challenged the nomination papers of Shahbaz Sharif from PP-159.

Moreover, the election tribunal also permitted Pakistan Muslim League Quaid's (PML-Q) Samina Khawar Hayat, whose nomination papers had been rejected earlier for having bogus graduation degrees, to contest the coming polls.

A tribunal also allowed Pakistan Peoples Party stalwart Imtiaz Safdar Warraich to contest elections after his nomination papers for a Gujranwala seat were earlier rejected by a Returning Officer (RO) for hiding assets.

The election tribunal of the Peshawar High Court also allowed the chief of the Jamiat-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rahman, to contest general elections for the NA-27 constituency.
