CHARSADDA, April 20: The local leadership of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl has expressed reservations about the party’s seat adjustment with Qaumi Watan Party and it was opposed to withdrawal of candidates in favour of those of QWP in the four districts of the province.
JUI-F District Executive Council had an emergency meeting here on Saturday with party district chief Maulana Gohar Shah in the chair.
Noted among those in attendance were JUI-F general secretary Fakhar-i-Alam Khan and members Haji Danishmand Khan and Dr Elahi Jan.
The participants expressed reservations about the JUI-QWP seat adjustment formula and complained that the local leadership was kept in the dark on the matter.
Under the seat adjustment formula, the two parties will support each other in Charsadda, Swabi, Swat and Buner districts during the May 11 elections.
QWP nominee Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has withdrawn his candidature in NA-7, Charsadda in favour of JUI-F candidate Gohar Shah, while a joint candidate of JUI-F and QWP will face Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan in NA-7 constituency.QWP has also withdrawn its candidate, Shah Iran Bacha, from PK-17, Charsadda in favour of JUI-F contestant Fazal Shakoor Khan.
Under the agreement, JUI-F is to withdraw its candidates from PK-18 and PK-19 constituencies in favour of QWP contestants.
However, both JUI-F candidates have refused to withdraw their candidatures in favour of QWP nominees.
Maulana Hashim Khan, who is the JUI-F tehsil chief, said on Saturday that he had decided to contest election from PK-18 as an independent candidate.
He rejected party decision to withdraw in favour of QWP candidate Sultan Muhammad Khan.
Also, Dr Ellahi Jan, chief of 10-member JUI-F negotiation committee, announced to contest election from PK-19 and said he would not withdraw his candidature in favour of QWP candidate, Arshad Omarzai.
According to the JUI-F local leadership, the party’s position in PK-18 and PK-19 constituencies is very strong and therefore, it should contest election there to claim victory.
It demanded revision of the decision of the JUI-QWP seat adjustment without delay.
