HYDERABAD, April 20: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has informed consumers that an acute shortage of water in the urban areas of Hyderabad district may prevail in the coming days owing to severe interruption in the supply system on account of unannounced loadshedding being carried out by the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco).

A meeting of the top Wasa management held on Friday noted that due to financial constraints, the water utility was unable to run the supply system through power generators while Hesco was carrying out hours-long loadshedding daily.

Chairing the meeting, Wasa Managing Director Mr Salimuddin expressed his concern over unavailability of electricity to run the water supply system.

The meeting considered a proposal to approach the provincial government for a bail-out package to cope with the emergency situation.—APP
