Balochistan teachers refuse to perform election duties

QUETTA: The Balochistan Government Teachers Association has refused to perform election duties following threats to teachers by banned militant organisations.

The BGAT has sent a letter to the provincial governor and Balochistan’s interim chief minister on looming threats to the lives of teachers during elections in the province.

The letter said the teachers continue to receive threats in 11 districts of the province, including Kalat, Mastung, Kech, Khuzdar , Noshki and other districts.

The association mentioned that in such situations the teachers would be unable to perform election duties.

This refusal on part of the association has come two days after the killing of a senior teacher in Balochistan’s Turbat region. Baloch separatists have warned teachers to stay away from the process of elections.

I fully support teachers, unless and until government is able to congenial environment for elections the entire exercise will be futile. There is no doubt in my mind the govt. has failed to maintain law & order situation in Pakistan and it seems like they don't care about it like other major issues power shortage, poverty, etc.

This doesn't come as a surprise that some teachers have refused to perform election duties, but what does surprise us that why all other people on election duties in Pakistan are still taking risk.

I second to teachers and suggest the staff from election commission and judiciary from all over countries including CJ, CEC and RO should be deployed for this purpose.
