ATTOCK, May 3: The district government has demanded six companies of Army and 10 of Rangers to provide foolproof security on polling day, it has been learnt.
As many as 220 polling stations, out of 789, in the Attock district have been declared sensitive where army and Rangers would be deployed, sources said.
For this purpose, meetings were also held between the officials of district police and army to finalise the security plan.
About 5,000 policemen and other personnel will perform election duties. Besides, 2,000 officials of police and elite force, about 3,000 police razaqars and special police would also be deployed during election days, the sources said.
“The district police are prepared to perform security duty for election 2013,” the district police officer (DPO) Abdul Kadir Qmar said while responding to a question.
He claimed that the code of conduct devised by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was being implemented in very smooth manner with zero tolerance to its violators.
Due to strict implementation of code of conduct, so far not a single complaint of any violation has been reported, he said.
The police officials have been warned to keep themselves away from the electioneering and avoid their direct and indirect interference in the election’s process, he said.
Meanwhile, Training of police officials to be deployed for election duty has begun at their district headquarters.
As many as 1500 policemen, including Inspectors, Sub Inspectors (SIs) and ASIs would be deployed at 789 polling stations for election duty.
A special police team under supervision of the district police officer is imparting election training so that responsibilities can be performed as per directives and code of conduct of the election commission.
They will be briefed on how to follow instructions of presiding officers and other election staff, besides removing trouble makers from polling stations.
Furthermore, the police will maintain the law and order situation at the polling station.
In order to handle trouble makers in or out of the polling stations and in case of violence clashes among rival contesting candidates or their supporters. Besides this, police officials would also be assigned to ensure safety of foreign election’s observers.
Meanwhile, the district police's spokesman said that training of 339 Police Qaumi Razaqars (PQRs) has commenced at the district police lines in connection with election duties. They have been given Rs1,000 for uniform allowance besides daily honorarium and other facilities, he added.
