QUETTA: Seventeen districts of Balochistan including Quetta plunged into darkness after militants blew up transmission lines in Naseerabad area of the province on Tuesday, police said.

Police said militants had blown up two 220kv transmission lines in Chahtar area of Naseerabad district.

The damage to transmission lines resulted in abrupt suspension of power supply to Quetta and other districts of Balochistan. Prolonged suspension of power supply compounded problems of people.

According to Quetta Electric Supply Company officials repair work on transmission lines could not begin due to worsening law and order situation in the area.

They said technical teams would be sent in the morning for repair of lines. Some parts of Quetta were provided power supply through Habibullah Coastal Power.
