Deputy convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita (coordination) Committee Dr Farooq Sattar has won NA-249 constituency in Karachi by obtaining 40,000 votes. His opponent Abdul Aziz Memon of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) managed to get 35,000 votes.

Since 1988, Sattar has consistently been part of either the National Assembly or the Sindh Assembly. He won a seat in the NA in the 1988, 1990 and 1997 election from Karachi and won in 2008 from NA-249 (Karachi – XI).

His association with MQM goes back a long way — APMSO (All Pakistan Muhajir Students Organisation) was formed in 1978, and Sattar became its member as early as 1979. The APMSO was the student body which served as the precursor to MQM.
