Six killed in suicide attack on convoy of IG Balochistan

QUETTA: At least six people have been killed and more than 60 others injured in a suicide attack on the convoy of Inspector General Police Balochistan on Sunday night. One child is also among the dead.

A police official who requested not to be named told Dawn.com that the suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle into the convoy of IG Police Mushtaq Sukhera.

He said the IG Police narrowly escaped the attack which shattered the windows of nearby homes. The force of the blast was heard far and wide in Quetta, which has plagued by violence for the last 12 years.

Around 1000 kilos of explosives was used to carry out the bombing, said Sukhera.

The blast was followed by six rocket attacks on Quetta city. Police said militants fired six rockets in Quetta city from an undisclosed location. Rocket attacks caused panic among the local populace.
