GUJRAT, May 12: PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that election results in Punjab are contrary to expectations while former deputy prime minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has thanked the people of Gujrat for electing him and his son Moonis Elahi.

Both the leaders were talking to reporters at their residence here on Sunday. PML-Q Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Moonis Elahi, Salik Hussain and other leaders were also present.

Shujaat Hussain said voters were coming to polling stations in large numbers, they stood in lines for at least four hours in the hope to bring about a change, but the results were quite unexpected. “It is still premature to say what actually has happened,” he said.

Pervaiz Elahi said the people of Gujrat fully supported them and gave due respect to his family, vowing to continue serving the people.

He said that NA-105 had been our family seat since the time of Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi Shaheed and he had contested elections from it for the first time.

He said previously Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had been elected MNA five times from this seat.

Mr Elahi said that Moonis Elahi had won the elections from PP-110 which was previously his seat.

He said his son had been elected from PP-118 (Mandi Bahauddin) in the 2008 elections and now Almighty Allah had blessed Moonis Elahi with success from PP-110 as well.
