KARACHI, May 14: Seven persons, including an activist each of the Jamaat-i-Islami and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, were gunned down at different places in the city on Tuesday, police said.

They said that Muhammad Azam, 35, was gunned down in Bilal Colony of Korangi on Tuesday.

The Awami Colony police said that he was standing near his home in Bengali Para when gunmen opened fire on him and fled. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment.

Awami Colony SHO Javed Brohi said that the victim was an active member of the MQM.

He said following the murder, tension prevailed in the locality as shops and other commercial activities were closed.

JI worker targeted in Lyari A worker of the Jamaat-i-Islami was gunned down in a Lyari locality on Tuesday, police said.

They said that Yunus, 40, son of Gul Khan, and his relative Asghar were on their way to the Fisheries area on their motorcycles when gunmen, also on motorbikes, intercepted them in Moosa Lane and opened indiscriminate fire and rode away.

The wounded were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi where Yunus died, while Asghar was admitted for treatment, said Baghdadi SHO Muhammad Abid Tanoli.

The dead and the wounded were fish traders. An FIR was lodged on a complaint of the wounded against unidentified assailants.

The SHO said that people tended to avoid nominating anyone in the FIR even if they knew the source of threats because of the situation obtaining in Lyari.

Another man killed in Lyari A young man was gunned down in a Lyari area on Tuesday evening.

The Baghdadi police said that Muzzamil Ghani was having dinner at a restaurant when gunmen killed him.

The victim recently returned from South Africa.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Two brothers found shot dead They said that the bullet-riddled bodies of two brothers — Shoaib, 25, and Adnan, 27 — were found in Mohammadi Colony, better known as Machhar Colony, off Mauripur Road.

Docks SHO Asif Jakhrani said that the victims were residents of Baldia Town and belonged to the Kutchhi community.

They had probably been kidnapped and killed on Monday and later their bodies were dumped in the area, he said.

The elder brother was said to be an employee of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.

The motive for the killing could not be ascertained immediately.

However, the SHO hinted that they might have fallen victim to the gang warfare in the locality.

Relatives staged a protest sit-in on a road leading to Hub over the killing.

Man found murdered in Kharadar A young man, who had gone missing on Monday, was found shot dead in the old city area on Tuesday.

Police said the bullet-riddled body of Wilayat Hussain, 35, was found in Abul Chowk, Kaghzi Bazaar, in the Kharadar area in the morning.

A copy of a computerised national identity card found in his possession showed that he was a resident of Chakiwara. However, later it became known that the victim was living in Nazimabad.

Kharadar SHO Idris Bangash said that the victim was associated with some cellphone business.

He said that a case was registered at the Kharadar police station against unknown persons.

Killing in Orangi A man was gunned down in Orangi Town on Tuesday evening.

Police said that Abdul Razzak was running a kind of ‘clinic’ in his area to bandage wounds.

He was targeted there at a time when there was darkness in the area due to loadshedding.

He suffered a single bullet wound in the temple. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.

The police suspected some personal enmity behind the murder.

Suspect killed in shootout A suspected robber was killed in the Sohrab Goth area late on Monday night.

A police patrol in Dhani Bux Goth was informed about a robbery. They reached the scene and an encounter ensued in which one suspect was hit by bullets, while his two accomplices managed to escape.

The wounded was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

The body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification. He was later identified as Dildar Bugti.
