MARDAN, May 14: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) losing candidates and workers on Tuesday continued their protests in several National Assembly constituencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against alleged rigging in May 11 general elections, urging the Election Commission of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the matter.

In Mardan, the PTI workers held demonstrations for the third consecutive day and set up a protest camp near kutchery against what they called change made in results of NA-9, Mardan-I, by the returning officer concerned.

According to the result for NA-9 announced by returning officer Ikhtiar Khan, the Awami National Party candidate Ameer Haider Hoti (44,701 votes) defeated PTI nominee Nasir Khan advocate (42,034 votes).

The PTI candidates who won elections from other constituencies of the district, including Mohammad Atif, Mujahid Khan, Ubaidullah Mayar and Tufail Anjum, and local party activists took part in the protest demonstrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Nasir Khan and other PTI leaders claimed that on the night of May 11 Nasir Khan was leading by 5,000 votes against Mr Hoti, but on the morning of May 12 the situation was changed as Mr Hoti was leading by 2,767 votes.

They demanded of the ECP to take up the matter and remove their reservations.

MANSEHRA: Four losing candidates, two of them from PTI, have alleged massive rigging during general elections in Mansehra. PTI candidate for NA-20 Azam Khan Swati and NA-21 Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed said that they would move the election tribunal against rigging in their constituencies.

Mr Saeed told a press conference the other day that female voters of Torghar district in his constituency were barred from casting votes.

Independent candidates Shahzada Gustasib (PK-55) and Babar Saleem Swati (PK-53) have also decided to move the election tribunal against alleged rigging in their constituencies.

TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir chapter of PTI on Tuesday demanded of the ECP to hold re-election in NA-34 as over 200,000 women were barred from exercising their right to vote.

Flanked by party workers, PTI provincial joint secretary advocate Rahmanullah and other office-bearers alleged that result of election in NA-34 had been changed under a pre-planned conspiracy.

They claimed that election staff was favouring the JI in Lower Dir. They urged the ECP to take notice of the written agreement by the political parties to bar women from voting.

KARAK: A large number of protesters, including those from Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Sami), demanded re-polling at 20 polling stations of the district and transfer of district police officer Ateequllah Wazir.

The protesters, led by former MNA Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz and former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul, held a procession and chanted slogans against the alleged poll rigging and DPO’s involvement.

Speaking to the protesters, Maulana Aziz and Mr Gul also alleged that two SHOs of Terri and Banda Daud Shah police stations were involved in rigging and that despite repeated requests no security was provided to them.

Later, deputy commissioner Ali Anan Qamar and DRO Khalil Khan negotiated with the two losing candidates and assured them that their reservations would be conveyed to the ECP.

Meanwhile, newly-elected MPA Gul Sahib Khan also addressed a press conference and rejected the poll rigging charges.

GHALANAI: JUI-F candidate for NA-36, Mohmand Agency, Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Sadiq on Tuesday alleged that the establishment and polling staff were involved in rigging election in favour of his rival candidate.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Sadiq also alleged that voter lists were missing at several polling stations while women voters were forced to vote for the rival candidate.

CHARSADDA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and PTI candidates have rejected the May 11 election results in NA-7 and PK-18, and demanded impartial inquiry into it.

They were speaking at a joint press conference here on Tuesday. Lala Nisar Mohammad, father of PTI candidate for NA-7 Fazal Mohammad, in a join press conference with PML-N candidate for PK-18 Ihsanullah Khan alleged that Qaumi Watan Party and JUI-F made massive rigging in the polling.

They demanded of the ECP to hold impartial inquiry into rigging of elections.
