THE process of general elections is almost complete and the leading political parties have started [the process of] formation of governments … in different provinces and the centre as well. Discussions have been in progress for coalition governments and the process will hopefully be complete within the next few days. It was perhaps for the first time that people showed [such] enthusiasm in the general elections across the country. … The election is a very good omen for the nation … .
The media and caretaker government also [deserve] appreciation … and similarly the politicians also showed patience and tolerance to a great extent. It is Pakistan’s success that neighbouring countries have also appreciated and congratulated Pakistan for holding general elections successfully [despite a precarious] law and order situation. …
The candidates and voters [also deserve] appreciation as they bravely participated in the process. … The recent elections clearly reflect the emotions … of the people — that they fully love democracy and want change through votes. Though in some areas the voters preferred [old faces] … in many areas they brought a change and proved that they have the power to [reject] … anyone who fails to deliver.
In the past … traditional leaders always won the elections and ruled the public but this election changed the situation, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf got the majority. … The situation in Punjab and Sindh however remained almost the same where the former ruling parties got the mandate to form governments. …
No matter who has got votes and [rules] one thing is sure: those who fail to deliver will have to face embarrassment in the next general elections. The democratic process should continue … and politicians need to promote tolerance … in order to accommodate each other. …—(May 15)
