KARACHI, May 16: The Sindh chapter president of Pakistan Peoples Party and former chief minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has advised all parties agitating on streets against results of the May 11 elections to let the democratic process continue by accepting the mandate just as the PPP had accepted the mandate of other parties and even extended them greetings despite having reservations on the results in Punjab.

Mr Shah was addressing a press conference at the Karachi residence of Mohammad Ali Malkani who joined the PPP on Thursday after being elected as an independent candidate from PS-87 Thatta.

Syed Owais Muzaffar, who was elected from PS-88, on a PPP ticket was also present on the occasion.

After a formal announcement by the Malkani group of joining the PPP, Mr Shah said that the Shirazis and Malkani brothers had supported each other for 20 years but the latter parted ways after realizing that the Shirazis were going against the interest of Sindh.

With the Malkanis joining the PPP, the Shirazi group had not remained effective in Thatta any more, Mr Shah said, while responding to questions of media persons.

In reply to another question, he said that for the formation of the government in Sindh the PPP leadership was in contact with the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Responding to yet another question, the former chief minister said the people of Sindh had reposed their full confidence in the PPP and had given their mandate to it.

When asked about recounting of votes at some polling stations in Thatta, Owais Muzaffar said the recounting process was very slow and he had reservations. However, he expressed gratitude to the people of Thatta for reposing confidence in the PPP.

Arrest of killers demanded PPP leader and former home minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan said that those calling for strikes in Sindh wanted to create anarchy in the province and alleged that these very people were responsible for the recent murder of two persons of Wasan tribe.

He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at his residence.

He demanded that the caretaker government take notice of the killings and those involved be arrested.

In reply to a question, he said that after the formation of government, the PPP would not only complete all ongoing projects but also set an example of good governance.

‘PML-F involved in vote rigging’ Sindh PPP General Secretary Taj Haider demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan investigate and take notice of large-scale vote rigging in Sanghar, Jacobabad, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze.

He was addressing an emergency press conference along with PPP leader Shazia Marri at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.

He said that people’s participation in the elections despite repeated gun and bomb attacks was a victory of the democracy.

In Sindh, the PPP had emerged victorious from 80 seats which were now being reduced at the behest of the establishment, he said.

Mr Haider said the PPP was disappointed due to mismanagement and demanded that the election commission identify fake votes through Nadra and those magistrates and bureaucrats found involved in vote rigging be taken to task without any consideration.

Speaking on the occasion, Shazia Marri said the PML-F, which was involved in large-scale vote rigging in the elections, had started blaming others for it. She said that the election commission had been informed through letters about violation of the election rules but to no avail.

The PPP leader regretted that there was no proper security arrangement at the polling stations.

She said that the commission should order re-polling at 26 polling stations of NA-235 constituency.

Referring to the PML-F claim about their popularity in the constituency, she said that if it was so the PML-F should not shy from re-elections in Sanghar that would expose its claims.

She said Election Commission member from Sindh Roshan Ali Essani instead of sitting in Islamabad should have been here at the commission office in Karachi.
