KARACHI, May 18: A sessions court adjourned on Saturday the hearing of a case against former interior minister Rehman Malik till May 30.

Mr Malik and some other former lawmakers have been booked for allegedly filing false declarations along with their nomination papers in the 2008 elections to conceal their dual nationality.

The matter was fixed before District and Sessions Judge (south) Shahid Shafiq on Saturday for indictment of the suspect. However, defence counsel submitted an application asking the court to condone the absence of Mr Malik who, he said, was suffering from severe ENT diseases and since the required treatment was not available in the country he had gone abroad for treatment and surgery.

The court adjourned the hearing till May 30 and asked the lawyer to produce documents about the illness and surgery of the suspect.

Shahzeb murder case

One of the defence lawyers partly recorded his final arguments before an anti-terrorism court in the Shahzeb murder case.

Shahrukh Jatoi, Nawab Siraj Ali Talpur, his brother Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and their house servant have been charged with killing 20-year-old Shahzeb on the night of Dec 24, 2012.

Mehmood Qureshi, lawyer for accused Siraj, resumed his remaining arguments and contended that as per the statements of prosecution witnesses the accused had opened fire from the front side while medical reports said that the bullets hit the deceased from behind.

However, he could not conclude his final arguments on the second day and would resume on Monday.
