KARACHI, May 19: Upcoming Hania Naveed fought her way into the next round after registering a straight sets victory over Rida Khan in opening round of the girls’ under-18 singles in the second National Bank of Pakistan national juniors and seniors’ tennis championship at the Karachi Gymkhana on Sunday.

Hania conceded just two points while crushing her opponent 6-0, 6-2.

Contrary to Hania’s triumph, Alina Aftab was stretched to the limits by Wania Khan before emerging a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 winner.

Meanwhile, Nazif Ahmed, Murad Khan, Mohammad Dada and Adnan Tufail completed the quarter-final lineup in juniors’ under-18 singles.

Results: Juniors’ under-18 singles: First round: Mohammad Dada bt Abid Baloch 6-2, 4-0 — Abid retired; Adnan Tufail bt Dawar Rehan — walkover; Murad Khan bt Daniyal Pasha 6-1, 6-4; Nazif Ahmed bt Mir Ali Talpur 6-2, 6-0. Girls’ under-18 singles: First round: Hania Naveed bt Rida Khan 6-0, 6-2; Alina Aftab bt Wania Khan 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. Boys’ under-14 singles: First round: Mohammad Dada bt Mazhar — walkover; Asheesh bt Mir Ali Talpur 6-0, 6-4. Boys’ under-12 singles: First round: Mohammad Dada bt Arham Faheem 8-1; Asheesh bt Ali Changani 8-1. 40 plus singles: First round: Mohammad Iltifat bt Amin Chaghani 6-0, 6-0; Ejaz Sarhadi bt Amin Memon 6-1, 6-2. Monday’s fixtures: Matches start at 2.30pm.
