NA-250 PTI candidate Arif Alvi wins

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf's (PTI) Arif Alvi has won the NA-250 seat after re-polling was conducted in 43 polling stations of the constituency, DawnNews reported.

Alvi won over 17,000 votes, which was far ahead of his opponent Naimatullah Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami, who managed to capture only 446 votes, according to unofficial results.

PTI candidates for provincial assembly seats PS112 and PS113 were also victorious after re-polling.

The MQM, PPP and a minor religious party had already declared that they had boycotted the re-polling process.

The NA-250 seat has been one of much contention and controversy in Karachi, with allegations of vote-rigging and other irregularities reported on election day.

Earlier on reports suggested that voter turnout had been low for the re-polling process.

Re-polling also comes a day after senior vice-president of PTI Sindh chapter, Zahra Shahid Hussain, was killed outside her DHA Phase IV residence.

Not much of a contest given the two heavy weights, MQM and PPP, sat this one out. Hopefully PTI will do well for the constituents of NA-250.

I, being Karachiite, find it interesting that the result for NA-250 was announced after 11:00pm on the day of re-poll, and yet the Vote Count from just 43 polling stations of a single constituency - where as per media turnout was not more than 20% - is not complete but on 11th May by 11:30 am PST Nawaz Shareef was giving victory speeches and celebrating it in entire Pakistan, This had been conclusively determined courtesy a handful of news outlets and victory speeches were delivered. Now let see, is ECP is able to re-poll in 26 constituencies in Punjab where PTI is demanding re-poll and as well as in KPK where Molana Fazl-ur-Rehman is demanding re-poll and in Lyari where MQM is demanding re-poll as well otherwise this NA-250 re-poll will be considered as selective Justice and Selective justice is no Justice.

MQM and PPP boycotted that re-polls after MQM demand to re-polling the whole of the constituency was refused by ECP, its like , Son: I came first in my class, Mom : How many students are there in your class son? Stop day dreaming , like Imran Khan was clean sweeping before election 2013, You guys better get your foot out of your air condition office and drawing room and take a walk on the streets of Karachi where MQM is winning from last two decades , Face the reality and come out of denial , learn from the past don't make the mistake again like we did before by rejecting Mujeeb's mandate and had Dhaka fall, I am from Karachi and my vote is for MQM and will always remain for MQM until they will be given fair chance and power to do good for the country their way, Muppets.

This is a completely incorrect news heading. Arif Alvi may have won on the 43 polling stations yesterday, and very predictably, at that but the result of the whole constituency is still to be announced. Some heads should roll in the city news department. The news should have also mentioned that he was the lone horse in the race so that the significance or otherwise of this win is also conveyed to the readers.

17,000 votes was the total only from the 45 stations repolled today. Arif Alvi has over 77,000 votes from NA 250, Khushbakht Shujaat has approximately 30,000. Please correct the story.

Elections should be held in Entire Karachi in presence of Army. MQM will be swept away. ECP should wake up. They have themselves admitted that they couldn't conduct Free and Fair elections in Karachi. What on earth are they waiting for? Do a repoll so that justice is done with the mandate.

Good thing MQM lost. Hopefully in the future elections, MQM support will decrease to a point that the party will be reduced to nothing. People are beginning to realize what MQM truly stands for: Terrorism, looting and killing

I just wonder what would happen if elections were held in all the places where widespread rigging and intimidation took place. However, it is unlikley that the authorities would order relections in in disputed areas because they have their own vested interests and Paksitan is not quite ready for a fair and free election. Democracy means making personal sacrifices for the nation and future generations and not for personal gains at a cost top others. Pakistan has a long way to go before this culture of greed, corruption and filling their own pockets is eradicated.

As the representative party of Karachi, i demand mqm to launch a full scale legal battle to get the results of na 250 annulled. Let ecp and the biased benefactors of pti come into the open and be exposed. If mqm does not do this,mit will be doing an injustice to the citizens of karachi.

For some confused about the numbers, 86316 was only the number of registered voters in the 43 polling stations (polling on 19may). Overall the number of voters were in few lacs. Also overall PTI candidate bagged around 70000 votes and runner up was 30000. So if you remove the vote count of 19 may, PTI was still leading by a margin (possible reason why mqm did not wanted complete repolling).

Arif alvi won within 43, without any one contesting him. To whom he won? Arif Alvi asked re-election through out Karachi. Why Arif Alvi OR PTI just agree for 43 of one constitueny.

you need to educate your self as total votes in 43 polling stations were 86000 not in all 180 polling stations. The result of 107446 is for total of 180 polling stations and not 43 polling stations. This news has been biased toward MQM. MQM already new they lost in 137 polling stations which was held on May 11, 2013 by 40,000 votes that is why they wanted polling on all 180 stations. People has to understand MQM there is no rocket science to understand their terrorist attitude toward the people of Karachi

total votes registered in NA250 is 86316..and if we add the votes it comes to 107446...total votes cast more than registered voter and also there was low turnout of voters on 19 May.....i am total confused ..
