QUETTA: Mir Sadiq Umrani has tendered resignation from the slot of president Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Balochistan in the aftermath of defeat in recently held historic general elections.
“I have decided to quit the post following defeat in polls,” Umrani told Dawn.com on Tuesday. He said he has dispatched the resignation to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Umrani claimed elections in Balochistan were rigged and under a pre-planned conspiracy he was defeated in PB-28 Naseerabad election. “My voters were made hostage and I was helpless,” he said.
He said women were not allowed to cast their votes in most parts of Balochistan. “Despite repeated requests, the administration was unable to rein in terrorist elements targeting voters and candidates in my constituency,” he added.
Umrani, who was sacked by Nawab Aslam Raisani as a minister, lashed out at his own party’s government in Balochistan. He said during the 2008 general elections, people voted for PPP but 90 per cent ministries and government was given to other parties in Balochistan.
“Had there been PPP government, things would have been different here,” he argued.
