ISLAMABAD, May 20: A five-day training workshop for principals and administrators of colleges affiliated with public sector universities commenced on Monday.

The training is being held under the World Bank Support Programme for Tertiary Education in Pakistan.

According to a press release issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), 92 principals of affiliated colleges from four provinces are participating in the workshop.

Strategic Management, Financial Management and Auditing, Planning and Development Communication Skills and Information Technology are the main topics to be discussed in the workshop.

Executive Director, HEC, Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said intermediate education was an important pillar of higher education in the country and after 18th Amendment, the HEC was working closely with the provincial higher education departments to bring intermediate education at par with international standards.

Director General Academics, HEC, Fida Hussain said through this innovative activity about 800 college administrators were being trained over a period of three years.

He further added that training workshop aimed at enhancing quality governance, administration and management capacity and skills of principals and administrators of affiliated colleges. The World Bank has agreed to support the HEC’s Medium Term Development Framework-II (MTDF-II) through Tertiary Education Support Programme (TESP).

The purpose of the training programme is to prepare principals and administrators for international examination and assessment practices as they follow semester system. — A Reporter
