ISLAMABAD, May 22: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) notified on Wednesday successful candidates on 805 general seats of the national and provincial assemblies.

The notification revealed that the ECP had yet to receive official results of five seats — NA-269 (Khuzdar), PB-35 (Khuzdar), PK-60 (Battagram), PK-71 (Bannu) and PP-43 (Mianwali) — from the returning officers.

Results of 256 general seats of the National Assembly were notified. The result for 16 seats could not be issued for various reasons, including stay granted by courts, orders for re-polling and recounting issued by the ECP, and annulment of the electoral process due to death of a candidate or postponement of polls due to law and order.

The ECP has ordered recounting in NA-19, NA-37 and NA-103, re-polling at selected polling stations on various complaints in NA-46, NA-229 and NA-230 and annulled the election process in NA-83 due to death of a candidate.

Superior courts have granted stay against official notification in NA-137, NA-202, NA-192 and NA-237.

The official result from NA-269 is awaited while result for NA-272 has been withheld by the ECP.

Results for 118 seats of the Sindh Assembly were issued and notifications were withheld for 12 seats.

The Supreme Court has ordered fresh polls in PS-81 (Sanghar-cum-Mirpurkhas) while the Sindh High Court has stayed results in PS-14 (Jacobabad), PS-21 (Naushahro Feroze) PS-85 (Thatta) and PS-95 (Karachi).

Repolling in PS-17 (Kashmore-cum-Jacobabad), PS-62 (Tharparkar), PS-63 (Tharparkar) and PS-128 (Karachi) will take place on June 1 and recounting has been ordered in PS-84 (Thatta) by the ECP.

Election proceedings were annulled in PS-64 (Mirpurkhas) and PS-95 (Karachi) due to death of candidates.

Results for 289 seats of the Punjab Assembly were notified.

The Supreme Court has stayed notification of result for PP-170, while the ECP has ordered a recount in PP-207.

Election proceedings were voided in PP-51, PP-217 and PP-254 due to death of candidates, while the official result was still awaited from PP-43.

Notifications for 97 seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Assembly were issued, while official results were still awaited from PK-60 and PK-71.

Results for 43 seats of the Balochistan Assembly were notified.

Result for PB-35 was awaited, while results for PB-12, PB-48, PB-49 and PB-50 had been withheld by the ECP.

The Supreme Court has stayed the notification for PB-29 and the ECP has ordered a recount in PB-40.

The election proceedings had been declared null and void in PB-32 due to death of a candidate.

APPEAL: Meanwhile, the ECP has rejected the plea of Hamid Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for repolling in NA-125 (Lahore). He was beaten by Khawaja Saad Rafiq of the PML-N.

Talking to reporters after the hearing, Hamid Khan said on Wednesday that evidence of rigging had been provided to the ECP, but it could not do justice. He said the decision would be challenged in the Supreme Court. “The avenues of protest and legal recourse will remain open.”

Mr Khan said the ECP had failed to hold free and fair elections and to provide justice to the appellants.

But Khawaja Saad Rafiq hailed the decision and advised the PTI to accept the verdict of voters.

“If the PTI wins in KP it is fine, but when it loses in Punjab it calls it rigging.”

He asked the PTI to desist from attempts to impose its will through use of force. “The people have given us mandate to solve their problems and not to engage in fights,” he remarked.
