PESHAWAR, May 23: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf nominee for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister’s slot Pervez Khattak on Thursday said the new provincial assembly would meet on May 29.

“After the convening of the assembly’s maiden session, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and its coalition partners will resolve all issues confronting the province at the earliest possible,” he told reporters here at the Officers’ Mess.

Mr Khattak said PTI would fulfil its 100 per cent agenda during its rule in the province and that the people would see corruption-free government in the days ahead.

He denied wrangling among PTI, Jamaat-i-Islami and Qaumi Watan Party over ministries and said the three coalition partners were moving in the right direction.

“Dust will settle down in the next few days. We will clear everything with mutual consultation,” he said.

The chief minister nominee said independent members had reposed confidence in the leadership of PTI chairman Imran Khan and pledged to support the party in fulfilling its agenda of better governance and ending rampant corruption in the province.

He said he had shared the thoughts of the coalition parties and expressed optimism that the PTI would implement its programme in letter and spirit. He said that the PTI had given a new dimension to the politics where youths rallied around Imran Khan to bring about change and end the long-prevalent status quo in the country.

When asked about the demand of some lawmakers-elect about declaring Hazara a province, Mr Khattak said PTI had supported the demand during election campaign and would present a resolution in the House if it secured the support of the required number of members.

In reply to a query about ANP leader Afrasiab Khattak’s allegation that decisions about PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were made in Lahore, he said that is what was needed to be done.

“Imran Khan is the leader of the party (PTI) and therefore, he is required to take decisions,” he said.

The chief minister nominee said the people would feel the marked improvement in governance during the PTI-led government.

He said the people would get justice on their doorstep and that the government would introduce a uniform education system in the province by replacing the current class-based system.

On the occasion, independent MPAs-elect from Abbottabad Mushtaq Ghani and Sikandar Lodhi announced to join PTI unconditionally.

Mr Ghani said he was impressed by the vision of Imran Khan and had joined his party to serve the people.

“I am joining PTI without conditions only because I like its programmes,” he said.

Mr Lodhi also praised PTI leadership for revolutionary programme to improve health, education and other social sectors for the benefit of the people.

He said the people had suffered a great deal due to lawlessness and socioeconomic problems and therefore, they deserved to be given relief.
