KHAR, May 23: Two personnel of levies force were injured in a militant attack on a checkpost in Yousafabad area of Khar tehsil in Bajaur Agency early on Thursday.

An official of the local administration said the attackers fired several rockets, mortar shells and hurled hand grenades on a checkpost of Bajaur levies force in Yousafabad town near Khar.

“The checkpost was partially damaged and two personnel of levies forces, including the in charge of the post, suffered injures in the attack,” he said.

Soon after the attack, local residents, levies forces personnel deployed at the post and members of peace committees took positions and began firing gunshots on attackers.

According to the local administration, the levies force with the help of members of local peace committee repulsed the attack.

After the attack, senior officials of Bajaur Agency administration along with heavy contingent of security forces and levies force reached the site and began investigation.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the administration holds militants responsible for it.

After the attack, the political administration arrested many tribesmen under the Collective Territorial Responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.

This was the second attack on levies force checkpost in Yousafabad area during the last two months.

Lately, the main 66,000KV transmission line was also destroyed in an exchange of fire between militants and security forces causing suspension of electric supply to the entire agency.

The local residents have complained of being stressed out by power suspension.

“We are facing shortage of drinking water as electric supply is suspended. Water supply depends on electric supply,” Ubaid Khan.

An official of Tesco said a technical team had been sent to the area for repairing the transmission line and that electric supply would be restored within the next 24 hours.
