PESHAWAR, May 25: The death toll from militants’ attack on police reached seven as another policeman succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, while nine injured cops were still under treatment.

According to officials, six policemen were killed late on Friday night in rocket attacks on the convoy of district police officer, Kohat, Dilawar Khan Bangash at Ghaziabad, Mattani, in the suburbs of Peshawar.

Those killed on the spot were identified as Shoaib Noor, Mushtaq Khan, Mudasir, Shehzad, Noor Zaman and Nasrullah Khan. They all belonged to Kohat.

Officials of another police party, led by Inspector Imranuddin, that moved for help also suffered injuries while Elite Force constable Aamir Afridi was killed. He was buried at his ancestral graveyard at Kakshal, Peshawar.

The injured constables included Abdul Qadeem, Ali Khan, Liaquat Ali Khan, Samiullah Khan, Adnan, Mohammad Rahim and Inspector Imranuddin, who were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital. The injured DPO and his driver were taken to CMH Kohat on Friday night.

An official of rural circle said that it was an organised attack and their target was the DPO. Militants also fired a rocket from unknown location later on Friday night, which landed near Bacha Khan Airport, but no casualty was reported.

Meanwhile, terrorists carried out another attack on Spina Thana (police post near Darra Adamkhel) with mortars on Saturday afternoon, but no casualty was reported.—Bureau Report
