PESHAWAR, June 12: Two persons, including a policeman, were killed in a firing incident on Dora Road in the limits of Bala Mani police station here on Wednesday.

According to officials, two members of police riders’ squad were patrolling the area on a motorbike when a man opened firing on them. A policeman was injured in the attack while his colleague killed the attacker in retaliation, they said.

The injured policeman identified as Nisar Khan was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The killed attacker was identified as Baghi Gul, a resident of Bara in Khyber Agency.

An investigation officer said that it was yet to be ascertained if the attacker was member of a banned outfit but it was sure that he was involved in other anti-social activities like drug peddling etc.

The police parties, he said, used to patrol the area in routine to keep a vigil on the movement of suspected elements. “The situation is under control but even then police have to maintain law and order mainly in darkness of night to remove the sense of insecurity among the people,” the official said. He said that it was not the first attack on police in the city area as they had come under attack in the recent past but they continued patrolling their respective areas. — Bureau Report
