P ackage Options available with DAWN Relief help target specific earthquake relief needs. But first, food and shelter must be available throughout the long winter. Then, medical facilities and schools must be re-established to provide for healthcare and to educate children; vocational training centres need to be set up to provide skills to unemployed women and communication facilities have to be provided for education and entertainment. Finally, the delicate infrastructure of the community needs to be rebuilt by providing a space for social and religious gatherings, entertainment and recreation.

1. The Mother & Child Package

Choose the facility you would like to sponsor by selecting the appropriate box.

Option a: Support an infant’s first year

  Includes baby formula, clothes, diapers, immunisation and other health care needs. Rs 30,000

Option b: Support an expectant mother

Includes dietary supplements, medication and delivery expenses. Rs 30,000

The Mother & Child Package will provide support for expectant mothers and their new-borns. Mothers and infants will receive medical care and other pre- and post natal essentials, which include supplements, delivery costs, baby clothes and diapers, baby formula and immunisations/vaccinations.

2. The Healthy Choice Package

Choose the number of families you would like to support by selecting the appropriate box.

Option a: Health Care Centre

Includes the cost of setting up a fibreglass structure fully equipped and furnished to serve as a family health care centre. Rs 1,500,000

Option b: Medical equipment:

Includes the cost of one ultrasound machine, a pathological lab and a mobile X-ray machine. Rs 1,000,000

Option c: Hospital Infrastructure:

Includes the costs of setting up three fibre glass shelters for paediatrics, gynaecology and general medicine, furniture and fixtures for each clinic, general medical supplies, doctor’s equipment and hospital beds. Rs 450,000


The Healthy Choice Package covers the start up costs of housing three transitional fibre glass clinics (12 x 14 feet) for paediatrics, gynaecology and general medicine, as well as a 14-bed inpatient facility housed in a 1000 square foot fibreglass structure. The health centre will be manned by three resident consultants and suitably equipped with medical supplies, a mobile X-ray unit, an ultrasound unit and pathology labs, each housed in separate shelters.

3. The Responsible Guardian Package

Choose the number of families you would like to support by selectin· the appropriate box.

Responsible Guardian Package for 1 family Rs 100,000
Responsible Guardian Package for 5 families Rs 500,000
Responsible Guardian Package for 10 families Rs 1,000,000
Responsible Guardian Package for 20 families Rs 2,000,000

The Responsible Guardian Package includes the cost of setting up an individual 100-square foot, transitional home made of fibreglass for a family (typically consisting of seven members) and providing them with food* and cooking facilities, as well as bedding, blankets, warm clothes and personal hygiene products.

N.B: Each Full Guardianship Package will support a family of seven until the end of May 2006

* The food that is provided contains an average daily caloric value of 2,200 calories per person (inclusive of nutrients) as per international standard.

4. The Shelter Package

Choose the number of families you would like to support by selecting the appropriate box.

Shelter for 1 family: Rs 20,000
Shelters for 2 families: Rs 40,000
Shelters for 5 families: Rs 100,000
Shelters for 10 families: Rs 200,000
Shelters for 25 families: Rs 500,000

The Shelter Package provides a family (typically consisting of seven members) with an individual 100-square foot, transitional home made of fibreglass.

N.B: Each Shelter Package will collectively house a family of seven.

5. The Independent Woman Package

Choose the facility you would like to sponsor by selecting the appropriate box.

Option a: Vocational Training Centre:

Includes the cost of setting up a fibreglass structure, purchase of furniture, machinery and raw materials. Rs 475,000

Option b: Training facilities (includes trainers’ salaries)

Earning skills for 100 women: Rs 90,000
Earning skills for 150 women Rs 130,000
Earning skills for 200 women: Rs 180,000
Earning skills for 500 women: Rs 450,000

The Independent Woman package covers the start up costs of housing a vocational training centre in a 1,000-square foot fibreglass structure. The centre will teach women skills such as sewing, knitting, embroidery and computer literacy. 

6. The Classroom Package

Choose the facility you would like to support by selecting the appropriate box.

Option a: Support a Student for one year:

Includes textbooks, exercise books, stationary, pencil/ geometry box, uniforms, shoes, lunch, snack box and water bottle. Rs 9,000

Option b: Support a Class of 32 Students for one year:

Includes all academic essentials for 32 students. Rs 288,000

Option c: Set up a transitional Classroom:

Includes classroom shelter, desks and chairs, blackboard and classroom accessories for one teacher and 32 students. Rs 40,000

Option d: Rebuild a School:

Includes a 1,000 square foot, permanent concrete school structure divided into four classrooms for 128 students. Rs 500,000

The Classroom Package provides options for either setting up a temporary shelter or a permanent concrete structure. Also included in the package are school accessories such as stationary, school uniforms, teaching aids, furniture as well as teachers’ salaries.

7. The Community Centre Package

Choose the facility you would like to sponsor by selecting on the appropriate box.

Option a:Community Centre:

Includes the cost of setting up a fibre glass structure, purchase of furniture and fixtures, indoor sports facilities and educational and entertainment systems Rs 450,000

Option b: Equipment

Indoor sports facilities for children and teenagers: Rs 10,000
Furniture and fixtures: Rs 30,000
Educational and entertainment broadcast systems: Rs 130,000

The Community Centre package covers the start up costs of housing a community centre in a fibre glass shelter covering an area of 1,000 square feet, with the capacity of accommodating 100 people. The Community Centre will provide space for worship, religious and social gatherings, and will be equipped with recreational facilities, including indoor sports facilities and access to educational and entertainment media.

8. The Cyber Connectivity Package

Cyber Café:

Cyber Café Rs 750,000

The Cyber Connectivity package provides Internet access for education, information, entertainment, and communication. Housed in a transitional shelter and equipped initially with six computers, PC accessories such as printers etc., the cyber cafés will be connected to the Internet via satellite and staffed with three supervisors.
