PESHAWAR: The proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant organisation accepted responsibility on Thursday for the attack on a military convoy on Wednesday in Peshawar in which at least six military personnel had died.

Speaking to Dawn.com from an undisclosed location TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan said that security convoy was attacked in retaliation to the killing of its senior leader Waliur Rehman in a US drone strike on May 29. Ehsan claimed ‘around 80 per cent of intelligence and ground information was being provided by Pakistani authorities to facilitate drone attacks and it is for this reason they will continue targeting security’.

Responding to a question about holding talks with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI), Ehsan said his organisation was still assessing the stance of the newly elected government.

The spokesman, however, denied any involvement of the militant organisation in the two attacks in Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa which had also claimed the lives of two PTI provincial lawmakers, Imran Mohmand and Farid Khan.
