Suicide blast in Quetta’s Hazara town kills at least 28

QUETTA: At least 28 people were killed and over 70 injured in a suicide blast near an Imambargah on Kirani road of Quetta’s Hazara town.

Capital City Police Officer, Mir Zubair Mehmood confirmed to Dawn.com that at least 28 people were killed and over 70 were injured as a suicide bomber riding a bicycle blew himself up in a crowded area 40 to 50 metres away from an Imambargah.

Mehmood said the dead included nine women as well as four children.

He admitted that despite strict security measures, the bomber struck a highly sensitive and guarded area of Quetta. He stated that the dead bodies would be handed over to their heirs after identification.

Para-military troops and police were dispatched in the area to control the situation. The injured were taken to CMH hospital in Quetta for treatment.

The Jafaria Alliance and Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen announced mourning for three days following the attack.

Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch as well as the Hazara Democratic Party have condemned the blast.

Another tragedy. Another act of terrorism. Day by day it is becoming evident that Nawaz Sharif can't make the difference. Big and bold steps are needed to control the situation not a gentle dialogue offer to these terrorists.

I just cannot understand how a nation of nearly 200 million people with a powerful, trained armed force can tolerate this kind of sectarian carnage and accept it with resignation and do nothing about it. How can any government call itself ruling a modern state if it does nothing when its iinocent citizens are being mercilessly murdered daily by a bunch of crazies. Can you not blanket the areas with armed forces and smoke out the criminals?

They have started again.these poor people were spared for some time but always lived with a constant threat to their lives. Can no one intervene and stop this madness.Aafter all what have they done to be killed in this way.Tthese people are also Muslims, their book is the same, their Prophet is the same, they pray 5 times a day, they fast, they give Zakat and they also go for Haj., what have they got against these people. Is it because they also believe in Ali and the other Imams. I only hope some sense prevails.Is the administration not capable to protect their own people. What a shame.
